Basically, you can take a cliff walk in either direction as you leave Quarterberth:
You can do this directly from the property - to avoid being on the road as much as possible walk down the steps in front of the house and take a right along the harbour front.
When you get to Breakwater Beach go across and up the steps and turn left along the road for a short distance before turning left again down a slope towards Shoalstone Pool
After passing the outdoor pool and the carpark you will have to take a left and follow the road a short distance past Berry Head Hotel before going left into the woods (at the sign - shown here). If you do not want to do steps just carry on 20m and take a left instead.
Once you come out at the top of the woods you carry on along the path (a detour to the left will take you down to the old quarry where lots of fishermen go - also nice for wildlife viewing) – otherwise, keep on the path until you comeout of the woods into an open grassy area.
The fort will be in front on your left and there are gates and a cattle grid to get in. Once up there the Guardhouse Cafe serves good food, drinks and ice creams and there are plenty of benches outside to sit and watch the boats, birds and other wildlife. We have regularly seen porpoises and dolphins off the end of the Berry Head by the lighthouse.
If you take your dog up there it is a great off-leash area but I would suggest leashing up as you walk through the bushes towards the lighthouse as there are no barriers to the edge of the steep cliffs at this point. Looking from here to the right there is a further fort a little bit further along the cliff path which is worth a visit. From here you can carry on along the South West Coastal path - see St Mary's Beach walk.
If you have any more questions about our property and location, we look forward to hearing from you.
